Will Europe eat its shame with bread?

Will Europe eat its shame with bread?

A deal that rewards Russia, brings Ukraine to its knees, and leaves Europe footing the dangerous bill of compromise.

Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Ukraine is packaged as new diplomacy, but in essence it resembles an old deal: give up territory, give up ambitions, accept "neutrality" and call yourself lucky to have escaped.

In Washington they call this a "deal"; in Moscow they call it a victory; in Kiev, if implemented, it would be interpreted as capitulation.

And while the US poses as a peace broker, it is handing Russia a silent return to the international architecture, without demanding any real accountability for the aggression. The irony is that all this is sold as a plan for long-term stability, while it is simply a kind of ceasefire, handing over the pickaxe to the aggressor.

Europe, on the other hand, is lining up as spectators. European leaders talk about “values,” but in the face of American pressure, their voices are drowned out by economic calculations, energy dependence, and fears of the next wave of conflict that could sweep across the continent. The entire EU risks entering into an agreement that it did not draft, does not fully trust, and cannot control. If this plan materializes, the precedents it creates will be fatal: aggression is rewarded, borders are turned into negotiations, and European security remains under the plea of “may it not be our turn.”

For the Balkans, this is not just distant grand politics. A continent that succumbs to geopolitical pressure sends waves of instability even to the most fragile areas. If the great powers accept the forced border change in Ukraine, what prevents destructive players from reviving old ghosts in the Balkans? What stops destabilization projects, “border redrawing” scenarios, and the game of Russian influence in our region?

Trump's plan is not peace; it is a dangerous recipe that, under the guise of a solution, gives Moscow a legitimacy it never had. It forces Europe to walk on terrain it has not prepared for, transforming itself from a strategic factor into a figurehead in the geopolitical theater. And if Europe accepts this kind of "peace," then the danger is not only for Ukraine, it is for the entire continent, for its stability, for the credibility of its institutions, and for every country that still hopes for collective defense. In the end, it is a plan that tries to end the war, but that opens a new era of uncertainty. / Pamphlet
