The Prosecutor General, Olsian Çelaj, has categorically denied having ever been under political or diplomatic pressure while in office.
His statement came at a hearing in the Laws Committee, after a direct question from Freedom Party MP Tedi Blushi.
Blushi referred to a sensational statement from several years ago by former prosecutor Adriatik Llalla, who had mentioned strong pressure from former US ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu. In response, Çelaj said: “I have never had such reports or had such conversations. I categorically deny it.”
Asked about the joint task force with SPAK during the local elections on May 11, Çelaj admitted that there is room for improvement. "We took a series of measures that also have an effect on prevention, even though this is the competence of the police. However, we think that this would have an impact here as well because it shows the commitment that we had made. We could definitely have done better," he declared.
