Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, has reacted to the footage published by Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, which shows the treatment of detained flotilla activists, among whom is an Albanian.
Israel detained at least 40 vessels, part of the "Sumud" humanitarian flotilla, on Monday in waters near Cyprus. Among them was Albanian activist Baki Goxhaj.
Hoxha described these images as shocking and unacceptable, emphasizing that all detained persons must be treated with dignity and in full respect of human rights, international law and humanitarian law.
The minister also announced that he has instructed the Albanian Embassy in Tel Aviv to remain in close contact and coordination with the Israeli authorities, in order to provide Albanian citizens with the necessary consular assistance, as appropriate and in full compliance with international law.
"The footage shared by Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir showing the humiliating treatment of detained flotilla activists is shocking and unacceptable. All detained persons must be treated with dignity and in full respect for human rights, international law and humanitarian law. I have instructed our Embassy in Tel Aviv to remain in close contact and coordination with the Israeli authorities, in order to ensure that our citizens are provided with appropriate consular assistance, as needed and in full compliance with international law," Hoxha wrote.
