Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has reacted to the arrest of the former advisor of former Minister Olta Xhaçka, Amant Josifi.
From the floor of the Assembly, Berisha said that Prime Minister Edi Rama is the political protection of Amant Josif.
The latter was arrested in Dubai, while he was wanted by the Spanish authorities for fraud with the call center.
"His arrest was kept secret by Rama and Taulant Balla. It's been a week since he was arrested," said Berisha.
The news was made public today by the media.
Businessman Amant Josifi has been arrested in Dubai after being declared wanted after investigations revealed the large scale of fraud with exchanges and call centers.
Through computer network tracing, Spanish investigators were able to geolocate the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses from which the 'universe-markets.com' platform operated in Albania, Ukraine and Serbia.
They also discovered a dozen similar fraudulent platforms - created by an international criminal organization known as the 'Milton Group' - which used call centers and operators in Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia, North Macedonia and Ukraine.
According to Eurojust, the criminal organization has defrauded hundreds of thousands of victims since 2018, generating an income worth 50 million euros every quarter.
On November 8 and 9, 2022, in cooperation with Eurojust and Europol, the Special Structure Against Organized Crime and Corruption, SPAK raided 6 call centers in Albania linked to the 'Milton Group' and arrested 4 suspects.
These centers are owned by three companies linked to businessman Amant Josifi, a former political advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka during the time she headed the Ministry of Defense, and former business partner of the brother of the Albanian Prime Minister, Olsi Rama.
