Athens changes course for Beleri? The Greek Foreign Ministry no longer mentions
Beleri and Mitsotakis

The Greek Foreign Ministry has reacted to the 2-year prison sentence of Fredi Beleri...

Greece has reacted to today's decision of the Special Court, which sentenced Fredi Beleri to 2 years in prison.

Through a statement to the media, the Greek Foreign Ministry claims that the process was not fair. But what stands out is that today's reaction is many times milder than other cases. The Ministry does not mention EU integration at all, as it says that it hopes for a fairer process in the Appeal. Earlier, Athens threatened with a veto regarding European integration, but today it is not mentioned.

" Today's sentence by an Albanian court of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleris, adds to the concerns raised about the objectivity of the process.

And this is due to the shaking of the presumption of innocence due to external statements and actions, which defended the punishment and since the final punishment is clearly disproportionate in relation to the measure of the alleged offense. And the punitive measure prevents the mayor-elect from taking office, leaving the losing candidate in office, despite an express court order months ago ordering his immediate removal.

The selective application of court decisions is not in accordance with the principles of the rule of law. The Greek government will closely monitor the case and will wait for a fair and objective trial in the second instance of the judiciary ," the Greek Foreign Ministry said.

So it seems that there is a much milder reaction and signals are being given that Athens is changing course, not linking Beleri to the integration of Albania.

The Special Court sentenced Fredi Beleri to 2 years in prison. The elected mayor of Himara is accused of buying votes and GJKKO has partially accepted SPAK's request. The prosecution asked for 2.6 years in prison for Beleri. While Pandeli Kokaveshi was sentenced to 1.6 years in prison, which was converted into probation. GJKKO also ordered the confiscation of the defendants' cell phones and banknotes. As for the hearing, in a 9-page speech Beleri anathematized both the prosecutor's office and the police for fabricating the evidence against him, as well as the jury which, according to him, did not accept Beleri's requests and showed bias in the trial.

During the session, Beleri said that he was deprived of his oath as the mayor of Himara and that SPAK is asking him to sentence him for as long as Rama needs. / Pamphlet
