The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, revealed today in the plenary session the reason why the Democrats withdrew from the election of the People's Advocate.
Berisha said that the opposition acted in accordance with the Constitution and the Laws Commission.
"The decision of the Laws Committee was clear, they are not accepted because signatures have been placed, the same MP has signed several candidates and now you, since you definitely need the one that Këlliçi called a leprechaun but I want to call him the Opposition we love, had received signatures and now you overturn the decision of the Laws Committee, you overturn your decision just to rob the Ombudsman. The Laws Committee decided that there cannot be more than one right candidate for each MP, in respect of which we withdrew our votes", said Berisha.
The Democratic Party has withdrawn from the process to elect the People's Advocate. The opposition considers the process a farce, as according to it the SP also introduced other candidates, such as Endri Shabani.
The statement comes after on Tuesday, the list of candidate names for the position was approved in the Laws Committee with 9 votes in favor and 3 against, thus moving on to the plenary session for a vote.
Before the start of work in the committee, the SP parliamentary group met and decided not to propose any new names, but to choose one of the names proposed by the opposition.
The candidates for this position are: Aranita Brahaj, Jola Hysaj, Besim Ndregjoni, Adriana Kalaja, Tartar Bazaj, Skënder Haluca and Endrit Shabani.
