The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has harshly attacked Prime Minister Edi Rama during a statement to the media, accusing him of being primarily responsible for the situation created in the country and for blocking the European integration process.
According to Berisha, membership in the European Union is a historic aspiration of Albanians and a long-term investment, both by citizens and by the EU itself, which according to him has contributed billions of euros to the transformation of the country.
He stated that it was Rama who, according to him, has closed Albania's path to the EU, using an issue related to financial abuses, which he considered to be the direct responsibility of the prime minister.
Berisha claimed that billions of euros in investments have been wasted and questioned the implementation of infrastructure projects, emphasizing that some of them, according to him, have failed.
He also referred to a European Commission report of October 2025, which, according to him, raises concerns about increasing political pressure on the justice system, the lack of progress in the fight against corruption, and problems with media freedom in Albania.
"Albania in Europe is the centuries-old dream of Albanians, their 32-year investment, but Albania in Europe is also the investment of the EU, the EC member states, billions of euros with which this country has been transformed, considering the situation it was in, like no other country.
Rama closed the doors together with Lubi Balluku. Lubia bears great responsibility for the thefts committed, for the misuse and theft of billions of euros, he has disposed of 12 billion euros of investments and now, according to Rama himself, 1 thousand km of roads have been built, which he says have never been, which collapsed like straw roads one after the other this spring.
"In its October 2025 report, the EC raised as fundamental issues for Albania the increasing political pressure on the judiciary, the weak fight against corruption and major problems with media freedom," he said.
