The Democratic Party has requested this Monday, March 30, an interpellation with the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee for Internal Affairs and National Defense in the Democratic Party, Klevis Balliu, in a statement to the media, requested that Minister Lamallari account to the Parliament regarding concerns about the level of incrimination and the vulnerability of the State Police.
"On behalf of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, I have submitted to the Assembly the request for an urgent interpellation with the Minister of Interior, regarding serious concerns about the level of incrimination and vulnerability of the State Police to corruption and the influence of organized crime. Reports by international partners and prestigious international institutions have repeatedly emphasized that law enforcement structures in Albania remain exposed to corruption and criminal infiltration," Balliu said.
Balliu adds that according to him, the penetration of criminal elements into the ranks of the State Police constitutes not only an institutional problem, but also threatens national security and the country's credibility towards strategic partners.
"When criminal elements manage to infiltrate the structures tasked with fighting crime, this constitutes not only an institutional problem, but also a serious risk to national security and the credibility of the Albanian state towards our international strategic partners," he said.
Klevis Balliu states that on behalf of the Democratic Party, he requests from the government and the Ministry of Interior a clear explanation regarding the ways in which appointments were made to the State Police.
Meanwhile, this Monday, March 30, at 5:00 PM, a plenary session will be held in the Albanian Parliament. According to the official agenda, discussions on issues identified by voters are planned.
