Erion Braçe, a socialist MP for several terms, has recently offered himself as a candidate for the Municipality of Tirana, in the local elections to be held in the spring of 2027.
Braçe was elected as a deputy in the Tirana District in the last parliamentary elections, winning the mandate from the open list of the Socialist Party, while he received the most votes.
It seems that internal developments in the Socialist Party have convinced the socialist MP, who is now considered one of the veterans in the Assembly hall, to offer himself as a candidate, and for this he has thought of preempting any debate that may arise within the ranks of the socialists.
Through a letter addressed to the CEC, Braçe requested detailed information regarding the number of votes he received as a deputy from the moment he first ran until the last elections.
But not only that, Brace has requested accurate information on the electoral results in the areas where he has led campaigns, or has been mandated as a leader by the ranks of the Socialists.
Thus, through the letter addressed to the CEC, Braçe requests more specifically: the results as a deputy since his first election in the Berat region in 1996, the results of the Socialist Party at the regional level for 2009 in all Berat EAZs, the electoral results in Divjaka for the years 2013, 2017 and 2021, as well as the specific balance of votes received by him as a deputy in the last elections of 2021.
All this information seems to be part of the strategy that Brace will use in the SP leadership forums to seek candidacy for Mayor, referring to his electoral successes.
Perhaps due to the fact that most of the members of the leading forums in the Socialist Party, but also in the Parliamentary Group, are young and have no knowledge of their contributions to this party, Braçe has thought of simplifying the work, summarizing the electoral 'success' in numbers, regardless of the electoral area they have covered.
However, given the way the Socialist Party is being run and functioning, the final decision on whether or not Braçe will be accepted as a candidate for Mayor will be made by Edi Rama. And the latter has shown that he does not value either contributions or results, especially electoral ones, as long as he links all the Socialists' success in the elections to his personal name.
