Former Democratic MP Dash Sula, in a television interview, said that the opposition should nominate Sali Berisha as a candidate for the Municipality of Tirana.
But Democratic MP Saimir Korreshi, in an interview for the show "Today Live in Albania".
According to him, this can only happen if Edi Rama runs against him for the Municipality of Tirana.
"I have Dashin as a friend, don't make me talk about Dashin. For me, Sali Berisha cannot be a party leader, with what he represents, to compete. But if it were Edi Rama, Sali Berisha could be too. I know that Manastirliu is running, so let's not reduce the function. I think that we need a candidate not to do television shows, but who is really needed for Tirana."
Korreshi admitted that the minority candidates are skeptical due to the fact that the Democratic Party has been in opposition for years, but also because the party itself has not been reformed and is not meeting to engage the structures. This, says Korreshi, has also been influenced by the denunciation, according to the opposition, of abuses in the parliamentary elections of May 11.
"Those who have joined the DP are viewed as if they are kulaks. No meetings have been held. Nothing has been done to charge the structures. It should have been done but there was not much time. We are more concerned with denouncing the electoral farce, what we have denounced. 2021 and 2025 are not at all similar, how the entire government has launched an attack to take it," said Korreshi.
