Those people he has under his command and who are roaming around Tirana lobbying to have their names on the candidate list should actually be in Europe or the US meeting with those immigrants who may have truly fled because they had no hope in Albania, but he cannot restore their hope with the 'holy spirit'.
Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party of Albania, and Jozefina Topalli, appointed as political leader for the Diaspora, have spoken about the May 11 elections, the engagement of emigrants as voters in the elections, and the opposition's high expectations that their vote will enable political rotation in Albania.
But what is noticeable from the statements of Topalli and Berisha is the fact that the former expresses concern that the DP is very late in this process and then talks about government pressure, while Berisha appears optimistic that the diaspora will strongly support the opposition and gives the example of an immigrant who has registered 500 democrats alone. And in this context, Berisha asks that this immigrant be taken as an example and that everyone act like him.
That a significant portion of Albanians who have left the country in at least the last 10 years may vote against the Government may be true, but their vote may not go en bloc to the DP or the coalition it may lead, but be distributed between it and the new parties.
What is known so far is the fact that Edi Rama, beyond appointing Taulant Balla as political envoy for the Diaspora, has engaged groups of MPs and ministers, but also mayors, in at least two countries where it is thought that there is the largest number of Albanian immigrants, Greece and Italy.
There is also a commitment from new parties, especially Adriatik Lapaj, which has organized several meetings with Albanians in the Diaspora, while sporadically there is a commitment from Jozefina Topalli, but that's all.
Perhaps this is why she did not hesitate to consider it a planetary challenge, even emphasizing that you would have to be Elon Musk's SpaceX to do this process alone. In short, Topalli claimed that she has been left alone in a process that is considered vital in statements, but is not given importance on the ground.
"It is a fact that the DP has started preparations later than the SP, because 1 month ago we were an arrested party. Under these conditions, the maximum is being done, but I feel good that the president has gathered the deputies, the parliamentary group, the leadership to engage them because you have to be Elon Musk's SpaceX to do it alone, but there will soon be meetings with the deputies, we are trying to recover, we are in a race against time, the only thing they beat us with is money and luxury, we can't catch them here ," said Topalli.
But Berisha seems to have a different perspective.
" Last night, one of our MPs, Elda Hoti, sent me the registration that a democrat of her family had done in Canada. How many do you say? 500 immigrants. I express my boundless gratitude to this democrat, but he had submitted 500 immigrants with a list. He was one man. How had he registered them? He was dedicated to everyone he knew, a chain. Now, if we do not follow the example of this democrat, we are not responding to the duty we have. In every battle, there is nothing more irreplaceable and important than personal example," said Berisha.
Of course, the leader of the DP, with his slightly greater experience than Topalli, can use such episodes to ignite the electoral machine of the political force he leads. And it is no surprise that tomorrow he will appear again and say that another DP MP has informed him that in the US an immigrant has registered 1,000 Democrats alone.
Jozefina could even learn this detail from the television or by being in the hall, where Berisha could give his next speech. Berisha could play with such news until the last moment, information that is only told to him by MPs who are clear that they need to increase their weight to get a place on the list, but also to increase their own optimism or to touch the seat.
But essentially what Topalli says and raises as a concern about the DP's relationship with the Diaspora is closer to reality.
If Berisha is clear about the weight of the emigrant vote on May 11, he should at least be one step ahead of Edi Rama.
Those people he has under his command and who are roaming around Tirana lobbying to have their names on the candidate list should actually be in Europe or the US meeting with those immigrants who may have truly fled because they had no hope in Albania, but he cannot restore their hope with the 'holy spirit'.
On the contrary, Berisha does not believe what he says that 'immigrants will deepen the victory of the DP' and in such conditions he does not waste anyone's energy, he simply hopes for coincidences. / Pamphlet /
