Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that he had received a personal invitation from US President Donald Trump to represent Albania on the Peace Board for the reconstruction of Gaza.
After this statement, the first reactions came from the Democratic Party, where the Democratic councilor in the Tirana Municipal Council, Ilda Zhulali, rejected the claim of a personal invitation.
Through a post on social media, Zhulali explained that the Gaza Peace Board is part of the Comprehensive Plan approved by the UN Security Council through Resolution 2803, presented by President Trump. According to her, on January 16, 2026, Trump sent a standard letter to the presidents and prime ministers of about 100 countries around the world, inviting them to become part of an international coalition to implement the plan for peace in Gaza.
Zhulali emphasizes that the letter is the same for all countries and does not mention specific names of leaders, thus disproving the narrative of the "personal invitation" made public by Rama.

What is Trump's invitation to the Gaza Peace Board?
Last year, the UN Security Council, through Resolution 2803, approved the Comprehensive Plan to End the Conflict in Gaza, presented by US President Donald Trump.
Within this framework, the Peace Board and its structures are being established, which will be responsible for the security and reconstruction of Gaza.
On January 16, 2026, President Trump, in his capacity as the founder of the Peace Board, sent a letter to the presidents and prime ministers of about 100 countries around the world, inviting them to join this Board, approving its Charter and appointing an official representative who will participate in the meetings that will take place within the framework of this coalition.
Simply put, Trump is inviting about 100 countries to become part of an international coalition to implement his plan for peace in Gaza, including Albania.
The invitation letter is the same for all countries.
