Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe has called for an end to price abuses, emphasizing imported products and their impact on the domestic market.
During his speech, he focused particularly on the price of tomatoes, emphasizing the large difference between the import price and the one at which it is sold to consumers.
"We have been under import aggression and the prices on the market have been justified by this fact. I have addressed the Customs Directorate, especially for the product that became a hit, tomatoes. There are two items, tomatoes and tomato paste, coming from Greece, Italy, Serbia and Turkey, this has been our key import. There are somewhere around 2500 tons in the January-March period, but the prices that have been imported and cleared are surprising. The numbers are 5-6 times cheaper than the citizens have bought the tomato product on the market.
This is a scandalous abuse in a market where no fiscal invoice circulates. Agricultural production must be supported now, otherwise in July-September we will continue to import! The abuse of vegetable and fruit prices must stop! Even in terms of imports it is scandalous and unfortunately domestic production follows everyone in a row”, said Braçe.
According to him, the situation requires immediate intervention to protect consumers and support domestic production, in order to avoid dependence on imports in the coming months.
