"Vangjush Dako has been, is and will be my friend. Even if he goes to prison tomorrow, Vangjush Dako is my friend".
This is what Prime Minister Edi Rama said three years ago when he was invited to "Opinion". But it seems that their relationship has cooled, as today at the thanksgiving meetings in Berat, he reacted coldly without mentioning his name. Rama said that it is not easy and that he does not feel good when he looks at someone who was by his side until yesterday.
"We must be very patient in the fight against corruption, because we have entered a new phase, where for the first time in history people connected to me, the government, are being hit. This is not easy, there are things here that make you feel bad, you can't feel good when you see someone who until yesterday was by your side and is by the side of the lawyer, in front of the prosecutor and the judge. Something must have happened. But even when you see that the power of justice can be used to do things that don't work. These are part of the process. Note that these are happening for the first time. It never happened before. For this, we should be proud of SP, and for the contribution we make", said Rama.
Rama used to come to the defense of the former Mayor of Durres. He "struggled" against journalists, as well as against the opposing party in politics, but it seems that recent events have changed the relationship between them.
Three years ago, on the "Opinion" show, Rama said that even though Dako was put on the "black list" of the US Department of State, he will remain his friend even when he goes to prison.
"Vangjush Dako has been, is and will be my friend. DASH doesn't define who I have and who I don't have as friends. My friends are defined by my morals and convictions. Even if he goes to prison tomorrow, Vangjush Dako is my friend, but with Dako I have never committed or collaborated in any violation of Albanian law. Is it fair to say what I said? Who are you to give morals to others? You have no chance of moralizing me. I don't have a single penny in my pocket that doesn't belong to me from my work. If he is my friend, and commits an offense and goes to jail. If there is an accusation against him, he will leave the SP", were Rama's words in 2020.
