The chairman of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, reacted immediately after the decision of the socialist majority to change the regulation of the Parliament of Albania, which foresees punishments from 30 to 60 days for the deputies who block the work of the plenary sessions.
According to Meta, the unilateral change in the Rules of the Assembly, made arbitrarily, aims at the annihilation of the opposition and parliamentarism.
"The unilateral changes to the Rules of the Assembly, made in an arbitrary and exclusionary manner, aim at the annihilation of the opposition and parliamentarism.
Therefore, the suspension of the deputies' mandates in this unconstitutional way is unacceptable.
Only the fulfillment of the opposition's demands restores normalcy in the Assembly and guarantees its controlling role towards the government" - said Meta.
The majority approved with 74 votes in favor the entire agenda that was foreseen. Today, some important issues for the smooth running of the Assembly were included in the agenda, such as the amendment of the assembly regulations.
The 74 deputies of the majority managed to vote and approve this change, which provides that deputies who break the rules in the Assembly hall are expelled from 30 to 60 days.
"There were tensions, clashes, chaos outside the doors of the assembly today. The session lasted only a few minutes, without discussion. The president of the assembly voted on the agenda.
