The Assembly has given another blow to Fidel Ylli as far as sports betting is concerned. The head of KOKSH, behind which the prime minister's brother is hiding, has been lobbying for months to restore betting, but the saw is stuck in his nail.
In December, the Economic Commission blocked the draft, asking for intervention. Today he came back for discussion, but it was postponed again.
The Chairman of the Commission, Eduart Shalsi, said that the reason for the postponement was the request for more time for the processing of the final draft by the legal service of the Assembly.
" The services that are reflecting the discussions that have taken place or some other experiences of the EU, requested a little more time and were not ready today to provide us with a material with concrete points ", he said.
Shalsi also had a message for the architects of this law: " Therefore, we must take some steps that should lead not only to the formalization of the market, but also to the separation from actors that should give way to serious actors and companies that have proven that they know how to work, manage the market and have the necessary investments ".
Earlier in the hearings, the interest groups warned the deputies that the draft law will not stop illegal activity, as it penalizes Albanian companies with experience in the market.
The former chairman of the betting association, Artan Shyti, said that the main problem of the new law was the penalization of Albanian companies with experience in this market, setting criteria for foreign shareholders.
" If the companies that were not restored, this process will fail ," he told the deputies.
