Former Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati has sent another strong message to Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding relations with Kosovo. Although a resolution on the attack in Banjska was approved on Thursday, Rama used the speech to attack Kurti. He also did not receive him at the stadium on Thursday.
Invited to a show, Bushati said that Albania and Kosovo do not have the luxury of being far from each other, but must stay together. According to him, Albania should strongly engage for the benefit of Pristina. He "torpedoed" Rama when he said that Kosovo does not need advice on how to act, but Albania should support it in the international arena and in the confrontation with Serbia.
" We must have a capillary coordination between us in the first place, for issues related to the national interest. We can have different policies regarding the economy, entrepreneurship, we can see world conflicts through different lenses, but when it comes to the national interest, we must be together. About the way we should deal with Serbia. We don't have the luxury of having a partition. We made an initiative for the Special Court, today we have to say about that initiative where we are. Is there a resolution in KiE? Is there a change in the national offices? It is also very good, like the Security Council started in 2007 and very good that governments take the baton from each other. In foreign policy, it is difficult to measure successes, but even at this point, 2 years after sitting in the Security Council, in relation to Kosovo, what have we done? In Kosovo, I think there is no safer door, the president, the prime minister, the parties, than in Tirana ", said Bushati.
On the other hand, he showed the reason for the increase in tensions between the two governments. According to him, the reason is the idea of dividing the territory, hitting Rama again. It was the latter together with Hashim Thaçi who tried to change the borders and according to Bushati, this has increased the clashes.
" Unfortunately, we have a lack of cohesion of the Albanian factor in the region and this comes for several reasons. Since the fact that in 2016, theses that had caught the dust of history began to appear on the table, and also that they appeared on the architectures for which the USA and the EU have invested a lot. Such as the equality of sovereign states and not changing borders. At the moment when sensitive topics that are related to territories and not to individuals, that are related to leaders and not to governments or societies, appeared on the scene. This caused an unnecessary, harmful fragmentation of the Albanian factor in the region ", he said further.
After the incidents in the North, where the heads of the municipalities were forced into their offices, there was a total separation between Rama and Kurti. The Albanian prime minister went against his Kosovo counterpart and canceled the meeting of governments. He then undertook a tour of meetings in the region and Kurti refused to meet him. For the attack in Banjska, Rama came up with a new theory that aggravated the situation, demanding that the north be taken over by KFOR. On Monday Kurti will be in Tirana as part of the Berlin Summit and it remains to be seen if there will be a meeting between the two prime ministers.
