Democratic Party MP, Xhelal Mziu, stated that the protest organized the day before was planned to last longer, but the intervention with tear gas changed its course.
Mziu said that the use of gas directly affected the shortening of the activity and the interruption of the opposition leader's speech.
According to him, the intervention of law enforcement agencies extended to several areas, including the premises of the Democratic Party headquarters and near religious buildings.
He also mentioned the case of MP Luciano Boçi, who according to him received burns on his hand and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. Mziu compared the behavior of the authorities to practices that, according to him, are not found in democratic countries.
"It has never happened in any country in the world that tear gas is thrown inside the headquarters of the Democratic Party, it is thrown inside the largest mosque in Albania, filled with believers, it has never happened that you go with your hands in your pockets in front of the Parliament and all means of violence are used. You witnessed yourself that a colleague of ours (Luciano Boçi) was sent to the hospital with a burn on his hand. There is a behavior that can only be compared to the Iranian regime," Mziu said on A2CNN.
The MP announced that the opposition will organize other protests in the near future. He emphasized that the organizers aim for longer and more frequent rallies in the future.
