The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted to the legal initiative undertaken by the Socialist Party regarding the issue of suspensions of officials from duty, taking the lead from the "Balluku" case.
In a media appearance, Berisha focused his criticism mainly on Prime Minister Edi Rama, whom he accused of interfering in the justice system and attempting to protect himself and members of the government cabinet.
According to him, the legal changes proposed by the majority aim to limit the powers of the Prosecutor's Office to suspend officials suspected of violations, describing this as a dangerous step for the functioning of the rule of law.
The opposition leader described the current situation as a "dangerous crossroads" for the country, emphasizing that, according to him, interventions in the justice system endanger Albania's stability and European integration.
"The resignation of Edi Rama is the condition of all conditions to pave the way for the resolution of the most dangerous crossroads where Albania is at all times. Only the resignation of this dangerous enemy of peace and stability, a fundamental condition for the resolution of this crisis that is devouring the country more and more every day. Rama, to protect his monstrous crimes, his incalculable thefts, is moving on to other activities in the annihilation of the justice system in the adoption of laws to protect himself and his band of plundering governments.
"The amendments he seeks to bring after the strong reaction and the black card he was issued in Buksel, have the main purpose of protecting the person of Edi Rama and the members of his criminal organization. The suspension of officials from duty for wrongdoing against citizens is a law, a constitutional legal right of the Prosecution and the institution of the prosecution of every country. It is a right that legislators have recognized for prosecutors and judges to protect the interests of citizens," Berisha said.
