The elected Socialist Party MP, Romina Kuko, commented on the developments following the recount of votes in the Fier district, which brought about a temporary change of mandate from Zegjine Çaushi to Maldrita Bardho, but which ultimately returned to Çaushi after Bardho's voluntary withdrawal.
According to Kuko, the recount was a valid exercise that dismissed alibis for manipulation or irregularities: " The process brought a necessary confrontation that showed that there was no alienation of votes from one party to another. It was a battle within the same camp and our system allows for victory even with one more vote ."
Commenting on Bardho's decision to step down from his mandate, Kuko called it a dignified gesture and an appreciation for Çaushi's contribution during the campaign. She emphasized that this was a voluntary act and not the result of external pressure.
Regarding the discussions and debates about the way Zegjine Çaushi has presented herself on social media during the campaign, Kuko said that society still takes political figures who are "rigid" more seriously, especially men in politics, leaving behind young people or women with alternative forms of communication.
" Politics today requires new forms of representation, and the younger generation is no longer approached through traditional methods. Today, politics is followed through social networks. There are many examples in Europe where 'different parties' have become a political reality, whether by comedians like Ukrainian President Zelensky or unusual figures. What worries me is when a politician destroys the democratic process, not when he communicates differently ," Kuko emphasized on the "This Week" show on News24.
