Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku has described emigration as the "real drama" of the Albanian economy. She emphasizes that the mass exodus of the workforce has affected consumption, spending, and self-employment.
In a video published on social networks, Tabaku referred to the latest INSTAT data, according to which employment among people over 64 years old has increased by 7.9%, signaling the aging of the labor market.
"Albania no longer has the competitive advantage of young people working and investing here; the hope of the economy has returned to the elderly," said Tabaku, arguing that the country has lost its 'attractive labor force' due to the current system and fiscal policy.
According to her, tax increases, the inability to buy an apartment, difficulties in starting a family, precarious employment and barriers to opening businesses have hit the middle class, pushing them towards emigration. "These consequences are being felt today in the economy ," she emphasized.
Tabaku called for a change in the economic model and structure of the economy, as well as a review of fiscal policies in favor of labor.
"Albania must value work, promote it and support it. This system must change," the MP concluded.
