Yesterday, at the beginning of his speech alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister Edi Rama cleared a flood of accusations against the well-known Italian daily "Domani". Rama accused him of telling half-truths about immigrant centers and Albanian crime.
"A warm welcome to everyone and especially to Italian journalists. Allow me to express my relief and pleasure to see you all here safe and sound in this area that according to an Italian newspaper which deals with tomorrow, the heart, the essence of Albanian criminality is where the clans that are related to the traffic operate of human beings" - said Rama.
Everyone looked at each other asking: "What is this talking about?" What had irritated the Albanian Prime Minister was revealed later and it was about an article published on June 1 with the title: "Emigrant centers in Albania were established in the stronghold of criminal clans". In the long article, journalists Marika Ikonomu and Giovanni Tizian first visited SPAK, which they compared to the anti-mafia prosecution of Giovanni Falcone. They also met prosecutor Elida Kaçkini there.
"The area where the centers are being built is part of the Lezhë municipality. This is an area where organized crime thrives. This is confirmed by Spak's recent operations in the area. Another prosecutor of this "super-prosecution" has investigated the affairs of various active groups in the municipality where work is being done on immigrant centers. A public statement by Spak is full of details about schemes of wrongdoing and corruption, drug trafficking and murder.
More than 2 million euros in cash have been seized and among those investigated is the director of the local police of Lezha, the head of narcotics of the same office and former MP Arben Ndoka, accused of planning to commit a murder. Ndoka is connected with the prime minister of Albania, Edi Rama, so much so that after his arrest the opposition accused the prime minister with very harsh words.
Among the most prosperous businesses for Albanian organized crime, even in those areas, not far from the border with Montenegro and Kosovo, is the trafficking of human beings" - says the article of "Domani", which then also talks about the investigations on some companies that cooperated in the trafficking of Bangladeshi workers to the EU.
And Rama, apparently this article had spoiled his mood. In his statement, he did not spare the irony, but also the accusation.
“Më duhet t’ju rrëfej që e kemi marrë shumë seriozisht këtë “zbulim” shqetësues dhe meqenëse gazeta e të nesërmes thoshte edhe që Prokuroria po merret me zbulimin e këtyre klaneve, do të thotë që po merremi së bashku me Prokurorinë e posaçme për krimet e rënda dhe na siguruan që ky klan nuk ekziston as në këtë zonë dhe as në vende apo në zona të tjera të Shqipërisë, ku sigurisht, veprojnë grupe kriminaliteti, por sipas prokurorisë së posaçme, e cila është pjesë e rrjetit Eurojust, nuk ekzistojnë premisat për të folur për një mafie shqiptare, një koncept ky mjaft i përdorur kohët e fundit për të hedhur baltë mbi Shqipërinë, por duke cituar kreun e Prokurorisë së Posaçme shumë të nderuar, nuk mund të themi që në këtë vend ekzistojnë struktura, të cilat u ngjajnë organizatave mafioze të llojit Cosa Nostra, Ndragheta, Camorrra apo Sacra Corona Unita sepse grupet kriminale shqiptare nuk kanë hierarki të tyre dhe veprojnë në rrethe të ngushta familjare apo shoqërore” – tha Rama.
Nuk ka vonuar as përgjigja e “Domani” pas konferencës për shtyp. Në një editorial të gazetarit Giovanni Tizian thuhet që në titull se “Rama po gënjen duke shkuar deri në surrealizëm kur mohon ekzistencën e mafies në vendin e tij”, citon lapsi.al.

Konfirmimi është udhëtimi i kotë, një reklamë elektorale, në gjykatën e socialistit Rama për të ritheksuar se qendrat do të ndërtohen, pavarësisht vonesave, kritikave dhe atyre gazetarëve që vazhdojnë të ndërhyjnë në çështjen ku do të shpenzohen 1 miliard euro” – thuhet në shkrim që vizitës së Melonit i ka vënë moton “Për një grusht vota” të cilën e akuzon edhe “për heshtjen përballë monologut të Ramës, i cili sulmoi gazetën tonë, shërbimin publik (Report) dhe shkon deri në surrealizëm duke mohuar ekzistencën e mafies në vendin e tij. Nëse nuk do të kishte ndodhur vërtet, mund të dukej si komploti i një filmi fantastiko-shkencor”.
“Rama akuzoi “Domani” se i ka dhënë një imazh “mafioz” të Shqipërisë. Faji ynë është që kemi publikuar një raport me titull “Qendrat e emigrantëve në bastionin e klaneve”. Sipas Ramës “nuk ka mafia” dhe koncepti shërben vetëm “për të hedhur baltë”. Madje, ai arrin deri aty sa jep analizën e tij për fenomenin mafioz në përgjithësi: “Grupet kriminale shqiptare nuk janë mafioze, sepse nuk kanë një strukturë nga lart-poshtë, por horizontale”. E tha vërtet. Por është një gënjeshtër.

Rama even goes so far as to say that he has spoken with the super prosecutor of Tirana and that the authoritarian prosecutor has confirmed his explanations.
We do not know the content of the dialogue between the prosecutor and the prime minister, but it is curious that a prime minister brings the office that at the end of May conducted a delicate investigation in the municipality of Lezha. Lezha is the municipality in which the Italian migration centers will be located. The list of crimes suspected of those arrested are: murder, attempted murder, corruption, abuse of office, migrant trafficking, beatings, gambling, gambling, threats. Involved in this complex operation of the prosecution, we find policemen from Lezha, clan leaders and a politician, former socialist MP Arben Ndoka, also accused of having provided information to commit a murder. Ndoka is considered very close to the prime minister's circle. And perhaps it was the mention of this name that upset Meloni's new political partner the most?
Rama's lies about the mafia remind those of Sicilian Christian Democratic politicians who shouted "what a mafia". They did it to hide the existence of a criminal power that was devouring the country. It was the system portrayed by Leonardo Sciascia in "Day of the Owl". A distant era. Maybe not for Albania" - concludes Domani.
