Socialist MP Erion Braçe confirmed that he intends to run for the Municipality of Tirana and directly answered questions that have been circulating in the media and public opinion over the past few weeks.
In a public reaction, Brace stated that he has not had any conversations with Prime Minister Edi Rama about this candidacy. He does not present this as distancing, but as a way of functioning that, according to him, should be normal in a party where candidacies arise from votes and not from the decision of one person.
He dwells on another point that has been discussed: the idea that his candidacy is related to a scenario to eliminate Ogerta Manastirliu. Braçe rejects this version and explains that he expressed the idea to run in the SP structures, in the Assembly of Unit 5, and not in the television studio or outside the party. According to him, it is a decision that matured over time and was related to contacts on the ground with citizens and socialists of Tirana.
Regarding the interpretation that this is a movement or attack against Rama, Braçe emphasizes that he has no intention of making personal attacks, adding that he does not deal with individuals, but with issues. He shifts the focus to the state of the city and the way it is run, saying that Tirana has not been self-governing and is not being governed for a year.
But on the other hand, Braçe did not leave without criticizing the way the Socialist Party functions today. He says that competition, merit and votes have been replaced by "posts on the wall", which produce leaders without votes and without a real base of support. This, according to him, contradicts the principles on which the party was built.
In the end, he defines the candidacy as an attempt to open up the process, more competition, more inclusion, and another standard for selecting the candidate for Tirana.
The debate about how structures and decision-making in the Socialist Party function has been raised before, especially about the centralization of control and the lack of real space for debate.

1. NOOO, I HAVE NOT TALKED TO EDI RAME ABOUT MY CANDIDATE; It is not a lack of respect; on the contrary, it is respect for what he is - the leader of the Socialist Party, the first equal among equals in a party that must choose with the votes of its members, sympathizers, the left as a whole, the people they want to represent and the path they should follow. These are the principles of August 2005 that make a difference and I stand by them, especially when it has come to the point that competition, merit, votes, have been replaced by wall announcements, done, and that have made unvoted and unvotable people, leaders at various levels.

To clarify, I have asked for a broad, inclusive, democratic, and non-career-focused process!

NOOO, IT IS NOT AN ATTACK AND I DID NOT DARE TO ATTACK EDI RAMA FOR THIS; In so many years in politics and public service, I DO NOT DEAL WITH PEOPLE, THE PERSON, THE INDIVIDUAL, I deal with principles, issues that stem from and are related to the way principles are implemented and that have an impact on people's lives. I mean, I have responded to the needs of this city for a year, sporadically even before. Now it is more serious: this city has neither been self-governing nor being governed for a year. It is in free fall in every aspect, especially law and order, SERVICES for its people. This is my concern, I want to face it; the complete reform of processes and the return of a better service to make it a city for everyone, not just those who only benefit. So my goal is to give the city back the work it started, not the attacks on everyone; JUST AS I DO EVERY DAY IN UNIT 5✋ THE DEPUTY WHO HAS NOT HAD ONE FOR 4 YEARS, SO I WILL MAKE THE CHIEF WORKER FOR THE CITY AND ITS PEOPLE!
