MP Belind Këlliçi says it is not up for discussion whether or not the DP will participate in the by-elections.
According to Këlliç, the opposition candidate for the elections in Tirana should be a political figure from the right who will have to generate broader political cohesion than just the DP.
"I don't believe there is anyone from the ranks of the DP who says we will not go to the elections. They have said that we will have decision-making in the forums regarding candidacies, deadlines.
Our participation in the elections is not up for discussion, even though the story of the May 11 electoral farce is not yet over.
We will have to come up with a candidacy that generates consensus and cohesion even beyond the ranks of the DP. I strongly believe that since this is a race where the person who will be running will be running for the second most important political figure, I certainly think that the profile of our candidate should be a political profile. A profile that generates as much support as possible even beyond the DP, even among small parties, and formalizes a broad coalition.
You have also seen candidates who have clearly stated that they do not want to run in this campaign.
Given that the two people who were also on the open list, Tabaku and Alimehmeti, due to their political plans and projects, do not prefer it, the DP will have to look at other names, outside of these ranks. Given that they were the most voted, they should have been the most potential candidates. We are in the consultation phase.
For me, it should be a political figure. I believe it should be a political figure from the right who should generate a broader political cohesion than just the DP.
Këlliçi further said that he has requested a conditioning of relations with Parliament," he told MCN.
