Former Democratic Party MP, one of the strongest voices, Ervin Salianji, believes that for a municipality like Tirana, where the opponent has a high-ranking political figure as a candidate, there should be a figure of this level as the choice from the DP.
Invited this Thursday with journalist Xhoi Malësia on "Breaking" on Top News, faced with this stance, the former Democratic MP emphasizes that the current situation forces the DP to come up with a unifying figure.
" Strong races, such as Tirana, especially when they have high-profile political candidates in the profile of the structure, such as Manastirliu, should have had candidates with a high political profile. The context in which it is today and the conditions they have from other coalition parties, mean that there are profiles of candidates that are beyond political parties ," said Salianji.
Salianji sees the resignation of the mayor when he loses elections in a democracy as a principled solution, but he has a justification for the Berisha case.
"The basic principle in democracy is that elites are changed and whoever does not win is changed, this is a principle almost like an unwritten legal norm. But the discussion today is that Albania does not have democracy and we do not have free and fair elections. We are also waiting for the final report of the OSCE/ODIHRR. But under these conditions, should an opposition leader stand up to denounce these violations? I think this is the right solution at these moments," added Salianji.
On the other hand, the former Democratic MP emphasizes that the Democratic Party needs a complete reorganization, from its cell, section, to the center. This reorganization, Salianji said, also includes Berisha, who has declared that upon the end of his mandate at the head of the DP, he will enter the race.
