Former DP MP Ervin Salianji does not hide his personal ambitions to run for the leadership of the Democratic Party in the event of elections within the party.
Asked in an interview for "Top News" by journalist Xhoi Malësia if he would run for the leadership of the DP, Salianja said that he will not talk about this topic now, but when the time comes.
Salianji further added that currently in the DP, personal ambitions must be put aside and work must be done to build a new, competitive and winning team.
Excerpts from the studio conversation:
-In the event of elections, will you run for president of the Democratic Party?
Salianji : We'll talk again. This is not the time to show ambition.
-At least don't deny it, if you don't confirm it.
Salianji : No, I was saying that this moment for the DP and the opposition is for everyone to give up a little of their ambitions, whatever they may be, to leave room to create a competitive and winning team. Because when facing the regime, especially in the opposition, the function is not important, but the political activity. It is not like in the government where you have a ministry and a certain portfolio. In the opposition, it is important to produce through ideas and actions.
-Do you agree with the statement that only Berisha holds the Democratic Party together?
Salianji : Look, Berisha is a symbol in the DP because of his history, because of the historical moment and the historical context that has come to the DP, because of the successes in governance, because of the long leadership in the DP. So one of the symbols in the DP is Berisha. So I don't believe that anyone disputes this. But it is undeniable that Berisha as a symbol will always serve as one of the unifying elements in the DP.
