Yesterday evening, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis gathered at an informal dinner in Athens the leaders of the Western Balkans, of other countries in the region that are in the EU, as well as the heads of the union. Albania boycotted after the crash course for Fredi Beleri.
The Greek newspaper "Kathimerini" writes that Mitsotakis delivered a clear message to Edi Rama last night.
"The purpose is the important message of the fact that the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was not invited to the dinner. The message was not addressed only to Tirana, but went in all directions and said that Greece will not tolerate any movement that either violates its interests or is not in line with European standards. Athens' position has been clear for a long time and says that the Albanian government has crossed the line with the Beleri case," the article says.
Another Greek newspaper, "iefimerida" quotes a senior European official on the Beleri case, who, according to her, stressed on condition of anonymity that the "key" is the resolution of bilateral disputes for EU integration.
"Resolving bilateral disputes with EU candidate countries is of primary importance, especially disputes related to minority rights, a senior European official noted after the leaders' dinner in Athens," the newspaper writes.
Meanwhile, after the end of the unofficial dinner, other details have emerged regarding the meeting of the leaders of the Western Balkans that took place in Athens, at the invitation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The 11 leaders participating in this meeting, including Prime Minister Mitsotakis, signed a joint declaration with 8 points, which, among other things, expressed unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
One of the most important points of this declaration was the enlargement process, which in these moments of the war in Ukraine, showed once again the importance of the inclusion of the Western Balkans in the European family./ Pamphlet
