Genc Pollo: Salijanj's movement at an inopportune moment
Genc Pollo

Member of the National Council of the Democratic Party, Genc Pollo, commenting on recent developments within the opposition, described Ervin Salianj's move as uncoordinated and made at an inappropriate moment.

He said that SPAK's recent investigations constitute a key moment to awaken social conscience, as they show that the situation in the country is deteriorating.

"It is not yet entirely clear why we need to wait for the OSCE report on the elections to begin what we call an analysis, or what could be a dialogue without formalizing it as an analysis. In this sense, I see that not only Salianji is acting in an uncoordinated manner, but anyone who raises a concern, raises a problem, also makes a criticism. Unfortunately, it came at a very inappropriate moment, because the recent actions by SPAK are a moment to awaken society's conscience, that here things are not only not going well, but are going so badly that we cannot sit idly by in our homes," Pollo said on A2 CNN.

Pollo emphasized that, although the timing was not well chosen, open debate and dynamism within the Democratic Party are necessary.

" The moment was not well chosen, but the fact that there needs to be a dynamism and a more open debate within the party. But there was no discussion about the elections, about the analysis of the party. It is a process that is expected to start in January and onwards, but there was no moment for discussion. It was left for the next meeting ," Pollo added.

He defended the DP protests, acknowledging that they did not overthrow the government, but have shown at home and abroad that there is a political force that opposes corruption, abuse of power, and criminality in government.

"The DP has held rallies. But imagine if the DP were to sit back, receive the salaries of its MPs and not hold those rallies. Would that be a better Albania? We agree that those rallies did not bring down Rama. Those rallies may have impressed, perhaps not. Those rallies at least showed Albanians and the public opinion abroad that follows Albania that, for better or worse, there is a force here that does not accept abuse of the state, does not accept high-level corruption, does not accept the criminality that penetrates the government and state bodies ," he said.

Speaking about expectations for the coming year, Pollo expressed his hope that the situation will reach a turning point that will bring about a real political change and rotation of power. He emphasized that change is necessary not simply for partisan reasons, but to avoid the serious consequences of a long and entrenched power.
