Drugs, Dollars, Diplomacy - Albania's Dance with the EU...
The Germans continue to deal strong blows to Prime Minister Rama. After BILD and other media outlets that debunked the membership propaganda, the German media have made a documentary that shakes Rama's government to its foundations.
Today on " Arte Tv " the documentary " Drugs, Dollars, Diplomacy - Albania's Dance with the EU " will be broadcast !
The German media itself writes that this documentary takes a look at Albania, a country that has long been considered isolated and in many ways still a mystery. “ Prime Minister Edi Rama has been in office for 11 years and finds himself caught between strict domestic politics and a push for European values. While protests against an increasingly authoritarian regime are taking place in the streets, Albania is simultaneously attracting millions of tourists to its beaches and mountains. Especially after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Albania's accession to the EU is considered important. But what is the reality on the ground? Is Albania really ready for Europe – and Europe for Albania? ”, the television website says.
Excerpt from the documentary
Albania until the early 1990s was a North Korea in Europe. Isolated from both the East and the West. Since 2013, Edi Rama has been prime minister. His work is characterized by rigorous domestic policy on the one hand and a foreign policy oriented towards the West on the other.
But while European heads of government have been praising Albania at summits for years, there have been fierce protests in parliament and on the streets of Albania against an increasingly autocratic regime.
Prime Minister Rama's government is accused of favoritism and involvement in international drug trafficking at the highest levels.
The country has been a candidate for EU membership since 2014. In order to counter aggressive countries like China and Russia, the EU seems willing to turn a blind eye to deficits in democracy and press freedom. This is now benefiting Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and his clique.
But what kind of country is this, that on the one hand in 2023 attracts more than ten million visitors annually to its beaches and mountain rivers, while on the other, before joining the EU, it spent millions of euros in aid? Albania is difficult to understand.
In the end, the question remains:
Is Albania ready for Europe? And is Europe ready to accept a country that has been engulfed by mass protests and mafia structures?
