The forced and "spectacular" return of Eni Vasili: A political soap
Eni Vasili /

The new RTSH Steering Council, which was just appointed with the aim of "reforming" public television, has begun its mandate by imposing itself, facing the candidacy of a figure so controversial that any claim for reform seems tragicomic...

At Radio Television Albania (RTSH), recent events have surpassed even the most creative fantasies of a soap opera script. The RTSH Steering Council was summarily dismissed by politics (PD and PS), simply because it had made the "unforgivable mistake" of disqualifying Eni Vasili, a journalist known more for her complex connections than for her questionable professionalism.

Eni Vasili, whose name has appeared more in political and media gossip than in success stories, is known for an integrity that is as dubious as it is eloquent.

Her career, which has ironically been characterized by an extraordinary flexibility towards political interests, is now entering another dramatic episode. Today, "coincidentally" on the very last day of submitting applications, she has decided to run again for Director General of RTSH. This step is not simply an attempt at a comeback, but an open imposition on the 11 members of the Board of Directors, newly elected by politics itself, who are now in the delicate position of not opposing the wishes of the politicians who put them there.

The irony of this situation is great: a new, newly appointed Board of Directors, with the declared aim of "reforming" public television, has begun its mandate by imposing itself, facing the candidacy of a figure so controversial that any claim to reform seems tragicomic.

This grotesque situation highlights the state of RTSH, a public media that, instead of being a symbol of independence and professionalism, has turned into a theater where characters play with predetermined political scripts. The Albanian public deserves more than a television that is used as a toy in the hands of figures known for inappropriate behavior, but masked with political finesse.

It is time for RTSH to break away from political comedies and return to the public with true professionalism and integrity, by choosing figures who are not imposed from outside, but who respect high media and public standards./ Pamphlet
