May 11, a security coordinator will be deployed near each polling station;

There will be a security coordinator at each polling station for the May 11 parliamentary elections. This is stipulated in the act approved by the State Election Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi. The security coordinator will report any irregularities he or she finds, immediately referring them to the police.

With this decision, the State Election Commissioner requests a more proactive role from the State Police during the electoral process.

Among the irregularities that the security coordinator must report is the presence of unauthorized persons near voting centers. According to the approved act, a security perimeter of 150 meters has been defined, within which unauthorized persons will not be allowed.

The coordinators will continuously monitor the external areas of the VC, including the courtyards, entrances and the 150-meter perimeter. In any case of detection of unauthorized individuals, suspicious gatherings, pressure on voters, threatening behavior or prohibited materials in this area, the coordinator will immediately notify the voting center commission(s) in the relevant location, the CEAZ secretary, and will immediately communicate with the State Police operations room in the relevant area, through the number 119.

In this context, any violation that is found will be included in the minutes of the security coordinator, where the names of persons who abuse during the electoral process will be made public on the official website of the CEC.

The presence of unauthorized persons near voting centers has been a concern in the last two election processes, which have also been identified as problematic in OSCE/ODIHR monitoring reports.

This is one of the innovations of the electoral processes in Albania and is within the framework of what is considered an additional measure to prevent electoral crimes.

In previous elections, in many cases, physical clashes have been recorded near polling centers between different groups supporting the entities in the electoral contests, where serious criminal incidents have also been reported.
