The Ambassador of the European Union to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, held a meeting with Mirela Bogdan, the Chairperson of the High Council of Prosecution (KLP), where they discussed the Council's priorities and challenges within the process of Albania's integration into the European Union.
The meeting focused on the standards for Chapter 23, which includes aspects of the judiciary and fundamental rights.
The ambassador emphasized that an effective, responsible and independent judicial system is key for Albania's future in the EU, while he congratulated the KLP for its efforts to increase the quality of justice for Albanian citizens. Gonzato asked to redouble these efforts to achieve more results.
"An effective, responsible and independent judicial system remains key for the country's future in the EU. Yesterday I met Mrs. Mirela Bogdani, President of the High Prosecution Council, to discuss the priorities and challenges of the Council in the framework of the process of Albania's EU integration, especially the standards for Chapter 23, which also covers the judiciary and fundamental rights.
I congratulated the KLP for their efforts to increase the quality of delivering justice to Albanian citizens and at the same time asked for the doubling of these efforts. The EU remains committed to supporting the High Prosecution Council in updating practices in line with the 2016 reform and European standards, also promoting close coordination between all justice institutions ," said Ambassador Gonzato.
