Police Chief Skënder Hita has warned that the State Police will implement standard procedures and the Criminal Code in the event of incidents or illegal actions during the opposition protest, which has been announced to be held on May 8.
During a press conference, Hita announced that police structures have taken all measures to guarantee order and the smooth running of the rally, emphasizing that the protest has been authorized to take place on "Dëshmorët e Kombit" Boulevard.
"All measures have been taken to organize this protest. Permission has been requested for the 'Martyrs of the Nation' boulevard and it should be concentrated there. In the event of illegal actions, action will be taken based on standard procedures and the Criminal Code," said Hita.
The Head of the State Police also introduced a change in the institution's way of communicating with the public and the media, arguing that the constant exposure to criminal news has created negative perceptions and insecurity among citizens.
According to him, the Police will follow a new communication model, more structured and based on European standards, with a focus on verified and transparent information.
"This decision does not come by chance, but is the result of a serious reflection on the numerous reactions of citizens to the way criminal news is reported. This is not a retreat from transparency, on the contrary, it is a step forward towards a more qualitative and professional transparency. Our goal is not simply to inform more, but to inform more directly, more accurately and always in the interest of the safety of every citizen," he said.
Hita explained that statistical data on crime will be published regularly on the official website of the State Police, while local leaders will hold periodic conferences to report on the security situation in the regions.
He emphasized that the Police aims to build communication that "informs, but does not alarm," while maintaining the balance between transparency and public accountability.
