The meeting of the Mandates Council to review SPAK's request for the arrest of Belinda Balluku has begun, and is being held behind closed doors.
But the opposition demanded that the meeting be held with open doors.
The DP representative at the meeting, Gazment Bardhi, said that the meeting could only be closed when SPAK prosecutors deemed it reasonable, when investigative secrecy was violated.
The meeting of the Council for Regulation, Mandates and Immunity is reviewing the request of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office to lift Belinda Balluku's immunity as an MP.
The latter has been suspended from her duties as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, while SPAK is seeking her arrest.
The head of SPAK, Klodian Braho, the prosecutors of the case, Dritan Prençi and Dorina Bejko, as well as all members of this council, are present in the Presidency of the Assembly.
Balluku will not be present at the meeting, while she has sent her two lawyers, Pamela Qirko (her sister) and Ardian Kalia.
The head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, objected to the 2-month delay in the issue, also demanding that today's meeting be transparent to the public. However, this request was not taken into account.
Although Prime Minister Edi Rama had previously stated that there was no urgency in handling the request, arguing that Balluku could be easily investigated while she is suspended, it appears that this approach has changed.
