Prime Minister Edi Rama, answering journalists' questions during the joint press conference with the President of the European Commission, emphasized that Albania's membership in the EU is not an illusion invented by him.
Rama said that Albania's membership in the EU in 2027 is linked to reforms and an assessment by the European Commission.
"I personally believe what we say. But based on this belief, we recently held elections, where Albanians were asked to give us their support, to give us a strong mandate for Albania 2030 in the EU."
As for the EU, there is a relatively long time for what I have said and I do not remove any commas. Where at that time it proposed to the Council to open negotiations and the Council refused because two or three countries were obstacles to this process. Today we have been living for some time in a different reality in the relationship between Albania and the EU.
Today we are in a situation where we have opened 5 out of 6 groups of chapters in just 11 months and this is a record. And of course we have done our homework because in Brussels no one forgives you yet.
But this process would not happen at this speed if there was no will not only from the commission but also from the member states. Because the entire EU has for some time been unwavering in its support for the process of new memberships. It is a general will. Meanwhile, the year 2027 is not something we dreamed of, but it is a deadline that we have set together with the European Commission.
And normally this year is related to the reforms we are implementing here with measures that are calendared and detailed.
"If we continue with this growth and this success, we will be able to do our duty in 2027," Rama said.
