Democratic MP Agron Gjekmarkaj has spoken about the leadership of the Democratic Party, which has been at a crossroads for a long time.
Gjekmarkaj said that he himself has no ambition to lead the DP, but that there are many other figures within the opposition with the charisma and the necessary preparations to unite the opposition and get it out of the situation it is in.
"I think that the Democratic Party has leadership potential, whether in a person who comes from the provinces or those who are in the center, professional people or intellectuals. Albania has not been left without people who stand up for the opposition or the right. The name game gets us nowhere.
I have no ambition. I don't feel it. I think I am more useful in the position of a person who speaks and writes. I'm missing some data. Being a modest person, I stay within the things I have to do and I am confident in them", said Gjekmarkaj.
Regarding the recent rumor of Argita Malltez's name as a possible leader of the party, Gjekmarkaj said that this is a story to get clicks.
"As for the mention of the name of Argita Malltez, I think that this is also another story of clicks. In the film "Shadows that remain behind" the son is asked to punish his father. The fact that Mrs. Malltezi protects her father seems to me the most humane thing in the world and I think she is doing the right thing by being by her father's side
However, I am against political succession. She can really enter the race and win that race because she has the last name Berisha, but from an ethical point of view, it would not be the right thing for the DP", said Gjekmarkaj on A2 CNN.
