The Albanian Parliament has officially addressed the Venice Commission for an opinion on the draft law "On the Financing of Political Parties", an initiative that touches on one of the most sensitive issues of the political and electoral system in the country.
According to the official announcement, on April 27, 2026, the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, filed a request with the Venice Commission, requesting an assessment and recommendations for the draft being discussed in Albania.
The request comes at a time when the debate over party financing, transparency of funds, and control over political financing remains one of the most discussed topics in international reports on Albania.
According to the procedure, the draft opinion of the Venice Commission is expected to be examined and adopted during the 147th plenary session, to be held in Venice on 12-13 June 2026.
The Venice Opinion is considered to have particular weight due to the impact it has on legal and reform processes in Albania, especially on issues related to democratic standards, the functioning of political parties, and guarantees for free and fair elections.
