The US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, has reacted with disappointment regarding the decision of the Elbasan Court to release the former Minister of Defense, Saimir Tahiri from prison and to pay off the remainder of the sentence under house arrest.
Through a post on the social network "Twitter", Kim said that she is disappointed with the justice which according to her still uses some old ways of impunity for officials.
She added that these things should not happen in a NATO member country, as she warned of the consequences for all those people in the justice system and in politics, who, through threats or corruption, try to release their friends strongly.
" Very disappointing to see that the old ways of impunity and privilege for some continue in Albania in the justice system. These old ways are not suitable for a NATO ally and EU aspirants and they must be firmly rejected. The United States of America considers corruption to be an essential threat to national security. Those who engage in giving or accepting threats and inducements — for example, to help powerful friends — must understand that their actions will have consequences ," Kim said.
