EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has stated that she will support Albania on its path towards integration.
The fourth intergovernmental meeting was held today and in a press conference at the end of the meeting, Kos stated that integration will always depend on the implementation of reforms.
" For me, integration is more than adding a country to the EU, it is about the unification of Europe. We are the generation of 2004, so we can say what the benefits of our countries are, in fact it is something beautiful to see because we ourselves can explain what it was like when we applied and what it is like 20 years later. It is also a good thing for Albanian citizens, it is the result of the determination of the authorities to implement reforms over many years, it is the achievement of many civil servants who work every day for the enlargement process. My call to action is to celebrate every small step taken, we would like to open all the chapters this year and from next year to start closing them. If Albania implements the reforms, I will be your best advocate in Brussels and with all member states ", said Kos.
Kos calls Albania a success story, while Albanian citizens are told that Albania has a place in the EU.
" Albania is a success story of our enlargement process and today we have taken another step in enlargement. My message to the Albanian citizens is clear, Albania's future in the EU. Today we are closer to achieving this objective than ever. Today we are closer to this achievement than ever. Your success has a broader meaning. Because you can show the Western Balkans that with dedication, anything can be achieved ," said Marta Kos.
