Socialist Party MPs have been instructed by Edi Rama to continue working in the special parliamentary committees for Electoral Reform and Territorial Reform, despite the boycott announced by the opposition.
This orientation was given during the meeting of the socialist parliamentary group, which is taking place this Monday at the Presidency of the Assembly.
During the meeting, it was emphasized to the deputies that the majority must move forward with the reform agenda, in line with Albania's commitments in the European integration process, underlining that there is no time for delays.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who recently returned to office following the Constitutional Court's decision that suspended the security measure "suspension from duty", previously imposed by the Special Court.
The meeting of the socialist parliamentary group began at 10:00 and takes place on the eve of the closing of the parliamentary session, with only a few days left until the last plenary session, scheduled for December 18. In addition to the usual agenda of the majority, the discussions have also focused on important political and institutional developments.
This meeting is considered practically the last of the SP parliamentary group before the closing session of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, said that the opposition cannot take hostage the two special commissions of Territorial Reform and Electoral Reform, after the meeting with Rama.
In a statement to the media, after the end of the Parliamentary Group meeting, Balla invited the opposition to reflect, emphasizing that their decision not to participate was emotional.
Balla stated that the Socialist Party does not accept threats or blackmail: "With the story that we leave, we do not come and vote, they see their work in our work," said the head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group.
"The opposition is the first to reflect on the approach we should have in the Albanian parliament. Each of us must obey the interests of Albania before political orders."
We are at a crucial moment in terms of EU membership. The goal is to complete the process by 2027.
I want to be clear today with the public regarding our position, a position that I have also made known to my DP colleagues, that there are no conditions, threats, blackmail, with a history of committees or votes in the Albanian Parliament against the SP. With the history that we leave, we do not come and vote, they see their work in our work," said Taulant Balla.
