The National Assembly of the Democratic Party has concluded its proceedings. The Assembly approved a series of statutory changes and elected the party's new leadership structures, including the National Council.
The vote counting process for members of the National Council is expected to take place at the Democratic Party headquarters, starting at 8:00 PM.
In his speech to the delegates, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, presented the opposition's political program, focusing on economic issues, the increase in salaries and pensions, the fight against corruption and organized crime, as well as the country's European integration process.
Berisha accused the government of seizing state institutions and stressed the need to reform public administration and the State Police.
During the proceedings, delegates approved important changes to the party's statute, which aim to strengthen internal democracy and increase the role of the membership in decision-making. The changes also provide for up to 15% representation of the diaspora and up to 40% representation of women in the party's leadership structures.
Another approved innovation is the creation of an independent commission for the selection of candidates, as well as other measures aimed at strengthening the internal organization of the Democratic Party.
At the end of the Assembly, the National Council, the highest decision-making body of the party between the two assemblies, was also elected, marking the conclusion of the Democratic Party's reorganization process.
