The deputy of the Democratic Party, Lefter Gështenja, said that despite the statements of the American Embassy that political actors should carefully review their attitudes towards persons declared "non grata", he does not see any reason to revise their attitudes.
Gështenja said that at the opposition table, the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party was not only with Sali Berisha, but also with other opposition factors and their aim was to create a united opposition.
" First of all, I don't see any reason to revise the position. The reason for the entire parliamentary group that I belong to, the official group of the Democratic Party, is not sitting at a table with only Mr. Berisha, but the invitation was for the 52 MPs, that is, all the MPs from April 25, 2021 without excluding anyone, with a single objective to unify the opposition and its positions in the Albanian parliament.
This is because, as we know, for almost two years we have not had a real opposition in parliament or outside it. We thought that the first step should be to have the entire opposition sit at a table.
I can't say, regardless of the reaction of the embassy, whether it is intentional or not that a good part of the media is trumpeting that the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party is sitting with Mr. Berisha's group, all 52 opposition MPs were invited there and they were and other members such as Dash Shehu, Vangjel Dule, Famtir Mediu, Agron Duka. There were also other opposition factors, which, with or without intention, are being left in the shadows ", said MP Lefter Gështenja.
