The Foreign Ministers of the European Union member states held a meeting with their counterparts from the Western Balkans this Monday in Brussels.
The focus of the discussions was on relations between the EU and the region, the enlargement process, the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and the security challenges currently facing the European Union.
During the meeting, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos announced that the European Union will spend around 200 million euros in the coming days for Albania and Montenegro, within the framework of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
"In the implementation of the Growth Plan, everything is going well and in the coming days we will disburse nearly 200 million euros to Montenegro and Albania. We are also bringing concrete results in terms of gradual integration, as, as you know, last week Serbia joined Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia in SEPA," Kos declared.
She added that further integration steps for Albania and Montenegro, which are considered the two most advanced countries in the region in EU membership negotiations, are also being discussed in Brussels.
The European Commissioner also spoke about the upcoming EU-Western Balkans summit, scheduled to be held on June 5 in Podgorica.
"Meanwhile, we are preparing the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will be held in Podgorica on June 5, and I expect a very strong commitment from all Western Balkan candidates to remain steadfast on the European path," said Kos.
