Prime Minister Edi Rama's speech and the clash with the Russian ambassador in the UN Security Council have been echoed in all major foreign media.
Rama, during the meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday afternoon, where responding to the criticism of the Russian delegation, said that if they want Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not to speak, Russia should stop the war.
In the articles, emphasis is also placed on the fact that after the session, Zelensky thanked Rama, saying that he "showed the world how to correctly deal with Russia, its lies and hypocrisy". So, during the speech, Zelensky demanded that Russia's right of veto be removed as one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Retuers, New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian as well as Il Post mention the moment when Prime Minister Rama collided with the representative of the Russian delegation at the opening of the debate in the Security Council.
Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia objected from the beginning of the meeting that the Ukrainian leader should not take the floor, while Prime Minister Rama replied: "...as you repeated many times that the violation here is related to the fact that Zelensky will speak before the members of the Council there is a solution for this. You stop the war and President Zelensky will not keep his word."
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama responded with a joke to Moscow, which has long said that the invasion is not a war, but a "special military operation".
"I want to assure our Russian colleagues and everyone here that this is not a special operation of the Albanian presidency," said Rama, known for his wry sense of humor, causing laughter in the hall.
"There is a solution for this", continued Rama.
"If you agree, stop the war and President Zelensky will not take the floor," said Rama, whose country serves as the next president of the council.
Nebenzya went on to say the hearing was a show and criticized Rama for what he said was a political stance rather than an act of a neutral defender of the proceedings. In an attempt to justify its invasion, Moscow has said that Ukraine's ambitions to integrate with the West – including NATO – pose a threat to Russia's national security.
