Brussels gives positive signals for the IBAR report, but some member states have not yet given the "green light"

Albania's European integration process is at a crucial moment, as intensive discussions are taking place in Brussels among European Union member states on the most important report of the current phase of negotiations.

At a meeting held today by the Working Group on Enlargement and EU Accession Negotiations Countries (COELA), the 27 member states discussed the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR) for Chapter 1, known as "Fundamentals".

This chapter group is considered the heart of Albania's negotiations with the European Union, as it includes justice, the fight against corruption, fundamental rights, security, public procurement and financial control.

Diplomatic sources in Brussels indicate that a full agreement has not yet been reached among member states, as three states have not yet given the "green light" to the final draft.

" COELA has not yet agreed at this stage. Only after agreement will the file be passed to the ambassadors ," a European source told international media .

However, despite the reservations of some countries, the signals from Brussels are considered positive.

Sources from the EU Council for the "European Western Balkans" report that member states have moved significantly closer to a compromise and that there is significant progress compared to the situation at the beginning of April, when the process was considered much more blocked.

If agreement is reached at the COELA level, the next step will be approval at COREPER, the meeting of ambassadors of EU member states, scheduled for May 22.

If approved, the way would be opened for Albania to hold a new intergovernmental conference with the European Union and move to the next phase of negotiations.

The IBAR report is of crucial importance for Albania, as a positive assessment is considered a key condition for closing the first negotiation chapters and for real advancement of the accession process.

The discussions in Brussels are taking place at a tense political moment in Albania, where the opposition and the majority continue to clash over corruption, justice reform, and relations with SPAK.

However, the fact that Albania has managed to open all negotiation chapters and that the EU is already discussing the phase of their closure is considered an important step in the integration process.

European sources emphasize that there is currently no formal blockade against Albania, but full consensus of all member states is required to move forward with the IBAR report and the first chapters of the negotiations. / Pamphlet
