The leader of the Freedom Party describes the proposals as an attempt to protect Rama from criminal prosecution.
The President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, reacted to the proposals for changes to the Criminal Code that affect the treatment of ministers in relation to arrest and criminal prosecution. He opposes these initiatives and presents them as protection for senior officials.
In a social media post, Meta mocked the changes, labeling them as a standard that, according to him, does not align with the country's aspiration for membership in the European Union. He sees the proposals as an attempt to create additional guarantees for politicians in the face of criminal investigations.
"Edi Rama's 'African' article, which surprised the world," writes Meta.
According to Meta, the proposed interventions risk violating equality before the law and affecting the functioning of justice.
