Parliament of Albania

Today, the next plenary session will be held where agenda items will be discussed and voted on.

According to the minutes of the Assembly, several draft laws on private pension funds, on citizenship, on the Constitutional Court, the draft decision on extending the term of the Electoral Reform Commission, etc., are in order to be voted on.

We remind you that the Committee for Legal Affairs approved on Tuesday, September 12, a proposal of the Constitutional Court to increase the salaries of its judges and the members of the Special Appeal Panel, to the extent of double compared to the salary of the judges of the Supreme Court and in excess sensitive to the reference salary of the President of the Republic.

The draft law drawn up by the Ministry of Justice, with the proposal of the Constitutional Court itself, provides that the salary of a constitutional judge will be around 644 thousand ALL, while that of the president of this court in the amount of around 773 thousand ALL. This draft law was contested by some members of the Commission as "illogical and unfounded".

The bill was presented to the committee by the deputy. Minister of Justice, Klajdi Karameta and director of Codification, Besmir Beja. The latter said that the salaries of judges and special prosecutors are currently higher than those of the Constitutional Court and that it was therefore necessary to treat them according to the hierarchy in the system.

Deputy Fatmir Xhafa contested the draft law through a series of questions addressed to the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, while emphasizing that with these changes, the members of the Constitutional Court would receive twice the salary of the members of the Supreme Court.

In the end, the Commission approved the draft law with 12 votes in favor. Out of the 14 present members of the Legal Affairs Committee, Bylykbashi voted against, while deputy Fatmir Xhafa abstained.

Meanwhile, in the Assembly, after the approval of the draft laws, there will be discussions on issues outside the agenda.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Foreign Minister will not be present at today's plenary session as they are in New York at the United Nations Assembly.
