From protests to strikes, Berisha: Opposition towards drastic escalation

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has spoken about the continuation of the opposition protests. During an online communication with citizens, he said, he was asked to intensify the protests against the government.

Berisha said that citizens proposed a series of more radical measures, including blocking economic life in the country, holding protests without speeches, isolating themselves in front of the Assembly together with MPs, and obstructing the functioning of parliamentary life. Another proposal was the organization of a general strike.

In his reaction, Berisha said that these ideas will be taken into consideration by the opposition for the next steps, leaving open the possibility of escalating the actions.

"What you say is necessary. Fear, honorable sir, is decisive today. The pharmacist cannot protest because his business will be closed tomorrow. The notary's license will be revoked. Time to do an analysis. There was a civil society protest against the tax on the price of oil. Who came out, 10 citizens. They are afraid. So we call on them, but this does not mean that we will not work in this direction. But between silence and confronting the regime, the latter is vital ," he said.

The leader of the DP also emphasized that the climate of fear affects citizens' participation in protests, while adding that the opposition will continue efforts for broader mobilization and organization in the future.
