For Ervin Salianji, there is only one reason for refusing to run, Sali Berisha's fear of punishment from the Democrats.
"Albanians would say 'u legenos', for a function, a chair, 'u legenos' in the literal sense of the word." This is Salijanj's comment, after he was left out of the May 23 race for the leadership of the DP,
"Berisha does not have the support of the Democrats. He is a coward who avoids confrontation with the Democrats and usurps the DP. If he had support, Berisha would enter the race and would win the race."
"By decision of the DP Presidency, my sentence has been called a political sentence. Berisha himself has said that I am a living martyr of democracy and free speech. Berisha, because of what is called the regime, has much bigger problems with justice than I do. You are not banned from the party because of the decriminalization law ," Salianji said for Report TV.
Salianji will not send the party to another court battle. He says he will notify the embassies and the family of European right-wing parties about the farcical presidential election process.
"I have communicated and will communicate during the week with the entire international factor about this mess that is happening in the DP. I will notify the PPE because the DP is part of the PPE and I have avoided the part of sending it to court since the courts are controlled by the Rama-Berisha regime. They would give a decision in favor of the regime, but I also do not want to lead the DP into this clash. Every conflict should have been resolved by vote. Votes and support are what separates a politician from a scoundrel", he emphasizes.
Despite the self-exclusion, Salianji says he will continue to be in the DP until "he dismantles Berisha as a segment of Rama's regime and, together with Berisha, Edi Rama."
The continuation of the leadership of the DP from Berisha to Ervin Salianji is also a reward for Rama's government.
"What greater service is there for Edi Rama than to have people he has defeated in elections since 2013 when he was in power. I have defeated Rama, how do I serve Rama? By going to prison, by winning in Kavaja, Korça, by seeking to improve the DP ," Salianji continues.
The former MP has been launching a movement against Sali Berisha and the Democratic leadership for months now, accusing them of failing to make the opposition a winner by extinguishing hopes for a change of government.
