The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted from Shkodra regarding the warning of the United States Embassy in Tirana about the possible risk of Iranian attacks on Albania.
According to Berisha, Albania is in a hostile relationship with Iran, which he said cannot be denied. He called on NATO to strengthen the country's air defense, emphasizing that Albania's airspace is also part of NATO's space.
Meanwhile, he added that security within the country's territory should be taken care of by local institutions, mainly the police, while criticizing those who compare the embassy's warning to ordinary statements about protests.
"Is Albania at enmity with Iran, this is not discussed, it is not hidden. I call on NATO, just as it is protecting Turkey, to guarantee us air defense. As for internal acts, the law enforcement agencies guarantee calm. But comparing them with the opposition protests is sick, you have the psychology of the Ayatollahs and I say shame on you for having it.
A warning is not issued without a basis. Does Albania have protection from NATO? Yes, every airspace of Albania is NATO airspace and we can be sure that NATO will protect us. But NATO does not protect us from attacks on the ground. But the statement issued by the office of the fugitive Fuga, that these are warnings that he issues for the opposition protests, is pathetic. We call on NATO to strengthen the protection of Albania's airspace", declared the leader of the DP.
